The all-aluminium Audi A8L has been voted "America's Best Luxury Car" by the US trade magazine AutoWeek, finishing ahead of the Lexus LS 430 and the Maybach 57/62.

AutoWeek, America's largest automotive weekly, presents the "AutoWeek Award" each year to outstanding vehicles in a variety of categories.

In its latest issue, AutoWeek wrote: ‘In the United States, Audi has tried long and hard to crack into the luxury ranks, and it has clearly done so with this completely redesigned, technologically-advanced, superbly powerful and incredibly comfortable flagship sedan. Those fortunate enough to have spent time in the A8L have been mesmerized by its sophisticated cockpit layout, its rich materials and the complete driving and riding experience."

Since the market launch of the new A8 in June 2003 until May 2004, Audi has sold over 5.640 of the aluminium-bodied luxury saloon, representing an increase of an impressive 328 percent on the prior-year period.

The Audi A8L 4.2 quattro will be launched in Australia from August 2004.
