To demonstrate the enormous potential of TDI Power, the Le Mans-winning R10 has gone head-to-head with the famous Harrier GR7 "Jump Jet" as part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

On Friday 7th July, the 650-hp, V12 TDI engine Audi R10 took on the 15,000hp combat aircraft at the RAF base at Wittering in the UK. The R10 was driven by Scotsman Allan McNish during the duel which quickly turned highly competitive.

Despite the 650-hp Audi R10 TDI being designed to start races from a "rolling" as opposed a "standing start", the revolutionary diesel sportscar was quicker off the line and in the lead for almost the entire kilometre before the Harrier GR7 "Jump Jet" overtook the Audi by a "nose" before it took flight in front of a crowd of 5,000.

"It was essentially a 'fun' race," explained Audi factory driver Allan McNish. "However, when a racing-car driver and a pilot get together it quickly becomes serious. To come so close to beating a Harrier fighter-jet was a tremendous achievement once again for Audi TDI Power - especially if you consider that we didn't modify the R10 TDI for this 'race'."
