First released in 2010, the current BMW 5 Series sedan has been, just recently, updated to keep up with increasing
competition. Touring and Gran Turismo variants have been updated for the 'mid-life' cycle, too.
The overall vision of the new BMW 5 Series has been to deliver modifications to the design with enhanced engine
performance and innovative BMW ConnectedDrive technologies to improve the appeal of the BMW 5 Series range even

Additional contour lines provide a slightly sharper sporting edge around the signature kidney grille and a
restructured lower air intake in the front bumper apron highlights new standard LED fog lights. Redesigned rear lights,
as well as an additional crease in the rear bumper strengthen the appeal at the rear of the new BMW 5 Series Sedan and
Updates to the interior include chrome strip borders on the control display as well as increased capacity for storage
compartments and cup holders in the centre console.
The BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo receives similar styling updates to the front, with a revised air intake in the front
bumper apron which also features the now standard LED fog lights. However, the biggest updates have been reserved for the
rear of this model, with a new and extended tailgate making a longer silhouette. This effect is enhanced by revised
two-section tail lights and updated styling cues around the registration plate holder and rear bumper.
All new BMW 5 Series models now have side indicators integrated into the exterior mirrors.
Performance and efficiency in the updated BMW 5 Series range has increased, particularly in the BMW 550i.
This vehicle is now equipped with a new generation 4.4-litre V8 engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, which
incorporates BMW’s VALVEtrONIC variable valve control system. The new technology package boosts the maximum power output
by 10 per cent to 330 kW from 5,500 rpm to 6,000 rpm, and increases maximum torque to 650 Nm, now available between 2,000
and 4,500 rpm. The increased output propels the 550i from 0-100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds, nearly half a second faster
than the outgoing engine.
The new BMW 5 Series update is comprehensive – it re-packages every model in the range.
Leading the charge are the company’s 5 Series entry level models, the 520i and 520d sedans. These vehicles feature the
full suite of BMW safety features, including dynamic stability control system, active headrests and an active protection
system, as well as six airbags to ensure maximum occupant protection.
Standard lighting and driver assistance features include Bi-xenon headlights, LED fog lights and anti-dazzle interior
rear-view mirror to ensure optimum visibility for the driver. In addition, features such as cruise control with braking
function, a speed limiting device, front and rear park distance control and reversing camera provide excellent speed
control measures as well as a high level of awareness during low speed and parking manoeuvres.
