More Power and Even More Dynamic Looks for the
2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser

2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser

29th November, 2004

Chrysler has improved the customer appeal of the retro-styled PT Cruiser for 2005 with the release of a new more powerful 2.4-litre petrol engine and the introduction of an aggressively styled Grand Tourer (GT) edition.

The newly available 2.4-litre engine is more powerful (105 kW at 5,200) and produces 14 percent more torque (214 Nm at 4,000 rpm) compared to the outgoing 2.0-litre engine. With twin-counter rotating balance shafts the engine also delivers smoother and more refined performance.

The new engine broadens the PT Cruiser’s appeal in addition to the car’s good looks, spacious cabin, unique versatility - such as 32 different seating configurations - and high levels of standard equipment.

The special edition PT Cruiser Grand Tourer includes performance suspension and tyres, 17-inch alloy wheels, body coloured rear roof mounted spoiler, silver shift knob, leather steering wheel, overhead console and front and rear fog lights.

The 2005 PT Cruiser also adds a rear tailgate latch with electronic touch pad and features cruise control as standard on all models except for the PT Cruiser Classic with manual transmission.

Since the Australian release in 2000, customer demand for the Chrysler PT Cruiser has been consistently strong.

Chrysler PT Cruiser sales are currently running seven per cent higher than 2003 and in total over 4,200 Australians have taken delivery in the past four years.

Gerry Jenkins, managing director, Chrysler Jeep Australia said: “The PT Cruiser is a retro-styled car that has successfully maintained its sales volumes defying the accepted wisdom that sales of retro cars fall off after one or two years.

“The car embodies a design that evokes emotion in people all around the world.

“With the more powerful 2.4-litre engine and the Grand Tourer model amplifying what owners love about the vehicle in the looks department, the PT Cruiser is now even more appealing,” said Jenkins.

All three PT Cruiser model lines (Classic, Grand Tourer and Limited) offer customers the choice of either a manual or automatic gearbox.

Safety will continue to be of prime importance on the 2005 model with standard equipment including front and side driver and passenger airbags, low-speed traction control and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes.

As a mark of distinction for the 2005 2.4-litre PT Cruiser, Chrysler Australia is introducing a new exterior colour linen gold. This will be in addition to the existing colour range of electric blue, inferno red, midnight blue, dark plum, bright silver, black and cool vanilla.
