Dodge Caliber Turbo Diesel Arrives

Dodge has added a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine to its 'off to a slow start'
Caliber line-up. Producing 103 kW and 310 Nm the 2.0-litre turbo diesel (CRD) is a 2,000-bar
direct-injection power unit with high-pressure fuel injection, dual balance
shafts, a variable geometry turbocharger and four valves per cylinder. The powertrain is paired with a six-speed manual transmission with
a three-shaft gear train which helps deliver fuel economy of just 6.0-litres
per 100 kms. The 2.0-litre CRD meets Euro 4 emission standards and becomes the fourth
engine in the Caliber range joining the 1.8-litre, 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre
petrol engines. According to Gerry Jenkins an increasing number of customers are switching on
to the benefits that modern diesel engines provide. “With the addition of this state-of-the-art 2.0-litre CRD customers can enjoy
both impressive performance and highly efficient fuel economy in a bold,
American designed Dodge,” said Jenkins. “The Caliber appeals to people who want something a bit different, that
breaks the mould and stands out from the crowd, now the turbo diesel engine
further broadens its appeal,” he said. The Caliber boasts a list of standard features including: dual
front and side-curtain air bags, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, keyless entry
with Sentry Key® engine immobiliser, security alarm, central locking,
air-conditioning, CD stereo, tilt steering wheel, driver one-touch power
windows, power folding heated exterior mirrors and 60/40 split rear seats that
fold flat. In addition the 2.0-litre diesel models, like the 2.4-litre petrol models,
add as standard Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Traction Control and Brake
Assist. Unique features available on the Caliber further differentiate the product
from others in the market place. These features
include MusicGate Power®, a 458 watt nine-speaker Boston Acoustics premium sound
system with subwoofer that includes two articulating speakers packaged in the
liftgate, Chill Zone® (standard) - a cooled beverage storage bin that can hold
up to four standard bottles or cans and a dual-purpose self-recharging removable
flashlight (standard), mounted in the headliner of the vehicle. Testifying to its design, the Caliber has also received a
five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA) in the USA. The diesel powered engine is available in three Caliber models - ST, SX and
SXT - with prices starting from just $28,990 (RRP) for the ST 2.0-litre CRD. Dodge Caliber prices
