Ford to Build New Product Engineering
& Development Centre in Geelong

15th July, 2004

Ford Australia today announced it would invest in excess of $20 million in a new Product Engineering & Development Centre in Geelong.

The new PE&D Centre will be constructed alongside Ford's powertrain and stamping operations in Norlane. When completed in mid-2006, it will house more than 300 people in office accommodation as well as providing sophisticated new test and equipment areas.

"Global recognition of Ford Australia's product development capabilities through the success of BA Falcon and new Ford Territory has resulted in an increasing number of design and engineering projects for the Asia Pacific region," said Ford Australia President, Tom Gorman.

"This Asia-Pacific focus, combined with future Australian projects, has created a need for improved facilities to support the design and engineering work of our product development team.

"In order to meet this demand, Ford Australia is investing significantly in new product development facilities, both in Geelong and Campbellfield."

Included in the development will be new offices, test and equipment areas, engine laboratories, a prototype shop and a new service garage. It will replace the existing Product Engineering buildings located to the east of Melbourne Road, Geelong.

The new facility will complement the Engineering & Technology Centre opened by Ford Australia near its Campbellfield head office in late 2003. The company is also currently developing an additional new technology centre directly adjacent to the E&TC.
