Holden Colorado To Replace Rodeo

21st March, 2008

2006 Chevrolet Colorado - Thailand

GM Holden has announced it will introduce a new light commercial vehicle later this year that will replace the long-running Rodeo. The new Colorado range will feature many of the attributes that has made Rodeo so successful, including the choice of petrol or diesel engines, 4x4 or 4x2 models, and numerous body styles such as Single Cab, Space Cab and Crew Cab.

GM Holden Marketing Manager for Light Commercial Vehicles, Teresa Basile, said GM Holden is moving to a new product with more details to follow in the coming months. “The light commercial segment is a significant market for Holden and with this exciting new addition we will remain a major player with a highly competitive new entry,” she said.

The new Holden Colorado will be available from Holden dealers later this year, although Holden is not letting on too much in the way of specifics about the new product.

For example, they are not saying if the Holden Colorado is a Daewoo, Isuzu or General Motors design. Nor are they saying if the Colorado is a new design or an existing design. Our image (shown above) depicts a Thai manufactured Chevrolet Colorado from 2006, which looks just like a Rodeo with a different front-end design. The Next Car team is not expecting this model to replace the Rodeo.

There is no news yet on why Holden wants to drop the successful 'Rodeo' name and introduce a new nameplate like 'Colorado' to the market. Presumably it's for the same reason that Nissan dropped the Pulsar name in favour of Tiida, knowing it would provide an opportunity to spend millions of dollars in an endeavour to promote the new model name to potential buyers who will be delighted by the knowledge that the cost of promoting the new nameplate has been loaded into the cost of the new product.
