JAGUAR CONCEPT CAR COMING TO SYDNEY

Jaguar R-D6 concept car

24th August, 2004

A radical Jaguar design leads a brace of new concept cars which will make their southern hemisphere debuts at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.

The Jaguar R-D6, which will be unveiled when the show opens at Darling Habour on 7th October, is a four door coupe featuring reverse-opening rear doors and a side-hinged tailgate.

The R-D6 is the most compact four-seat Jaguar ever built and is relatively light for a luxury car, thanks to the use of bonded aluminum chassis technology developed by the company for its new XJ production model.

The R-D6 transcends Jaguar tradition by being powered by a twin-turbocharged 2.7 V6 litre diesel engine which produces 180 kiloWatts and a V8-like 500Nm of torque.

The resulting power-to-weight ratio gives the car a 0-100 acceleration time of under 6 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Jaguar’s Director of Design, Ian Callum, will visit Australia to unveil the car on the opening day of the show.

“The R-D6 is a vision of the future of premium motoring: beautiful, fast, agile, efficient and fun,” said Mr Callum.

“That it defies categorisation makes it even more intriguing and desirable.”

The show opens to the public at 5pm on 7th October and continues every day until 17th October.
