KIA'S FLYING START FOR 2004 -
SALES UP 73 PER CENT AND IN THE TOP TEN

Kia is off to a flying start in 2004 with sales up a massive 73.2 per cent, making the Korean car maker the fastest growing car maker in Australia and securing its position in the top ten list of Australian car brands.

"This is clearly a great start to the year," says Ed Butler, Kia's National Sales Manager.  "But it is only the start! We have four new models coming in 2004 and we hope to start catching up with the remarkable demand for the Kia Sorento, all of which points to this year being another record year for Kia in Australia."

The Kia Carnival totally dominated the people mover sector, accounting for nearly half of all people movers sold in Australia in January. With 403 sales, it was the only people mover to get into three figures in January, leaving all its competitors struggling in its wake with fewer than 100 sales. The Kia Rio was third in its class, while the Kia Sorento, despite restricted availability, is still running ahead of its targets. The Kia K2700 maintained its number one spot in the light trucks, with almost half its sector, and the Kia Pregio remains Australia's second most popular van.

"What makes our performance all the remarkable is that it is being achieved with such a small range of vehicles while we wait for new models to arrive in 2004," says Edward Butler.  "Kia is the fastest growing brand in Australia with one car, one people mover, one 4x4, one van and one light truck. Just imagine what we will be able to do when we add another four models in 2004!"
