Mitsubishi recorded much-improved sales for May, as it continued its fight back in the Australian new car sales race. It said that its May sales result was a 27% increase on May last year, and it expected a continuation of the sales improvement in coming months.

The ever popular Lancer sedan continued to set records and the 1,300 sedans and wagons sold during the month set an all-time May sales record, and recorded the 4th best Lancer month in history.

The other star performer was Triton, which recorded its 3rd best month on record. During May, 1,200 two and four-wheel drive vehicles were retailed, blitzing the previous best May performance of 800 by 50%. This performance is largely driven by the newly introduced GLX-R that accounted for 363 of the 598 four-wheel drive Tritons sold. (NOTE: The average monthly sales were forecast to be 224 at launch in March).

President and CEO Tom Phillips said the pick up in sales from April was pleasing, and he expected June to be another solid sales month.

“We have overcome the stock shortages we had on some products in recent months, as well as a raft of great offers across most products and an interesting media campaign to back it up”, he said.

“June is traditionally a very big sales month at the end of the financial year, and we are geared up and ready to go. Magna/Verada also recorded a 57% increase on its April sales figures and we are well placed for an orderly run-out of the car prior to the launch of our all-new large car in October,” Mr Phillips said.
