Before the year is over Proton will introduce three new models into
Australia.
Proton Exora
The first of the three models will be a people-mover named ‘Exora’ which is scheduled to go on sale in October 2013.
The Proton Exora seven-seater, which will sell for $25,990 drive-away, will be the cheapest people mover on the market.
It comes standard with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with six pre-set ratios. It has four airbags and is
awarded a four-star crash rating. The servicing cost for the Exora is $1,600 over five years (15,000km/12 month) under
Proton’s 'capped price' service regime.
Standard equipment for the entry-level GX includes a roof-mounted DVD player, 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth phone
connection and a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 102kW of power and 205 Nm of torque.
Proton Preve GXR
The Preve GXR is the second new model for local release. This is a sportier version of the existing Proton Preve which
is currently sold in Australia. The coming Preve GXR has a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 103kW
of power and 205 Nm of torque, the same engine that features in the Exora. The Preve GXR’s suspension is Lotus-tuned
thanks to the fact the famous British sports car brand is part of the Malaysian group that owns Proton.
According to both Kaye Amies, Chief Operating Officer and Billy Falconer, General Manager Sales and Marketing of
Proton Cars the Australia pricing is yet to be confirmed. The Preve GXR will get standard inclusions like leather trim,
push-button start, dusk-sensing headlight and rain-sensing wipers.
Proton Suprima S
The third new model, which is arriving in December, is the Suprima S hatch. This small hatch also has the same
1.6-litre turbocharged engine fitted to the Exora and Preve GXR.
Both Preve GXR and Suprima S have a five-star ANCAP (Australian New Car Assessment Programme) safety rating.
According to Proton Australia the Suprima S will be Proton’s best-equipped vehicle to be launched locally. Standard
features from the Preve GXR sedan include a 7-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, daytime running lights, a hill
hold function and parking sensors. Again, no pricing has been announced.
Sales
Proton is planning to expand its Australian dealership to 30, as it endeavours to improve the perception of their
products. Proton has modest targets aiming to achieve 2,000 unit sales per annum which equates to just 0.2 per cent of
the total industry volume of over 1 million units across 60 brands.
After Sales
All three Proton models will be supplied with a five-year warranty, roadside assistance and capped-priced
servicing.
