Sweeping aside the competition, the Smart roadster was complimented by the Auto Express team as "lightweight, simple and affordable", as well as "a hoot to drive".

Elaborating on the judges' decision, David continued: "This low slung two-seater has taken the roadster market by storm. Peter Fadeyev, senior manager for Smart in Australia welcomed the UK magazine’s praise for the Smart roadster.

The prestigious UK accolade comes hot on the heels of the Top Gear Magazine Award for Most Fun Car in March.

The Smart fortwo was also commended in the City Car category, as being a stunning city car.

The Smart roadster was released in Australia last November. In the eight months since, one hundred roadsters have been delivered nationally.

The raunchy roadster is equipped with a 60 kW suprex turbo engine. The comprehensive range of standard equipment includes 6-speed manual/automatic transmission, electric windows, driver and passenger airbag, electrically assisted power steering and the advanced traction control system ESP (Electronic Stability Programme).
