For the first time, in the months of September and October, over 50% of all Golf models retailed were TDI. This is a significant increase over the previous months of the year where the mix was steady in the mid thirty percentile. Year to date October, TDI now makes up 38.6% of the total number of Golf models sold.

"This is a substantial increase in the demand for the TDI Golf products we have on offer" said Jutta Dierks, Managing Director - Volkswagen Group Australia. "I suppose it is a reflection of the changing mood in the market and growing awareness of the strong performance and economy stories that Volkswagen TDI products offer."

There is a choice of two TDI engines available in Golf: the 2.0 103kW engine with 320Nm of torque and the 1.9 77kW engine with 250Nm of torque. The 2.0 delivering dynamic performance and the 1.9 constantly showing its frugality, are both mated with the 6 speed manual transmission as standard or the optional DSG automatic.

"This growing TDI awareness coupled with the trend of customers downsizing in their car of choice has worked well for us especially so given we are now offering TDI diesel technology in the Polo from $22,990 and the New Beetle from $28,490. We then launch Jetta in February, Passat in late March and Caddy Life a couple of months later. Timing is everything in this aggressive and evolving Australian market."
