Friends, Next Friday, we'll be reporting from the Melbourne Motor Show. We will post as much information as we can during the latter part of day. You can guarantee there will be an enormous quantity of news. There is plenty of news this week, too! Manufacturers are lining up to show their new cars at the Geneva Motor Show, which occurs next month. Many of these new models feature in this weeks news. I trust you'll enjoying reading this on-line automotive newsletter over the weekend. If you wish, forward it on to other car nuts, with your recommendations. Warm regards, |

Perhaps you recognise this car. Perhaps you're thinking this is a Holden, not a Mazda!
But in 1975, Mazda released this Holden sourced sedan fitted with Mazda's Type 13B rotary engine.
The introduction of this model provided Mazda with a large luxurious sedan for
the Japanese domestic market, without the high investment cost
of an all-new all-Mazda design and it saved years in model development time.
You may have noticed that the Mazda is a HJ series Holden Premier. The Roadpacer AP appeared in March 1975
and stayed around for 2 years, a somewhat limited period in automotive model-life time.

2004 Mercedes-Benz SLK |
PICK OF THE WEEK After reading the news of this week, which story did you appreciate the most? I liked the announcement of the second generation Mercedes-Benz SLK. The reason being, the first series SLK always appeared to be a toy-like car to my eyes. However, the new model features styling which is sure to grab attentive eyes, wherever it goes. And in this segment of the market, that's what it's all about! Stephen Walker |

Is this the world's second most attractive car? The Editor thinks so! But we will have to wait for the new model, which is even more attractive. Just quietly, we can let you know that Alfa's new 166 won't be released at this years Melbourne Motor Show. Look for it later in the year. |

The XK was developed in the USA as a direct consequence of Volkswagen's sales success
in America during the mid to late 1950's. Ford needed a small car to compete with the Beetle! Hence the development
of Ford's interpretation of a small rear-engined air-cooled 4-cylinder car, which was a compact front-engined water-cooled
6-cylinder car. By coincidence, the concept proved just right for another purpose. In 1960, less than a year after it's
American introduction, the new Ford Falcon was available in Australia. It became a
direct competitor to Holden, which was then Australia's most popular car. The XK Falcon came, initially,
in sedan and wagon versions. During 1961 a utility and panel van were added to the range.
