MG: Happy 80th Birthday

One of the world’s most famous brands is now 80 years old! 2004 marks the 80th anniversary since the inaugural MG 14/28 was built by Cecil Kimber at the Morris Garages in Oxford in 1924.

Since then, the iconic MG brand has been at the forefront of sports car design, responsible for many generations of truly outstanding and desirable motorcars. These include the MG Midget & Magnette, the TC & TD, Y-Type saloons and the still highly desirable MG A, B & C’s.

Celebrating the 80h anniversary, MG is launching some of the most exciting sports cars ever to wear the famous MG octagon badge!

To start the year, MG has released the official 80th anniversary MG TF to mark this very special occasion. 1600 have been built for worldwide disribution, with only 30 being made available to the Australian market.

Available in both the TF120 CVT Stepspeed and TF160 variants, the 80th anniversary comes with the following unique features as standard equipment:

  • Unique Pearl Black Metallic Paint
  • Red coloured hood
  • Special 80th anniversary interior trim including red alcantara leather seats and door trims as well as chrome dash, door, handbrake, gear knob and steering wheel inserts.
  • 11 spoke 16” alloys with unique shadow chrome finish
  • 80th Anniversary Logo exterior badging (centre boot lid location)
  • Upgraded MG/AP Brakes (calipers painted RED)
  • Chrome door handles and mesh in front side and rear air vents
  • Wind breaker
  • Front fog lamps
  • Numbered car (only 1600 made).
  • Includes limited edition numbered certificate signed by the world renowned designer Peter Stevens

Recommended retail price (excluding delivery and state taxes) for these cars will be as follows:

80th anniversary TF120: $49,990
80th anniversary TF160: $52,990

The third quarter of 2004 will see the Australian release of the rear wheel drive MG ZT 260 V8 sedan and ZT-T V8 wagon. The twin supercharged MG X-Power ZT 385 is expected to join the model line up early in 2005.

In addition to these, MG Rover Australia are currently considering the introduction of the 160 bhp MG ZR 3 door hot hatch to supplement their current model line up.

Sidelined for many years, MG is well and truly back in business.

Happy birthday!
