Mercedes-Benz is just one of many brands which will be missing from the 2008 Sydney Motor Show The Sydney Motor Show (officially known, since 2004, as the Australian International Motor Show) has failed to attract twenty four brands to their annual event, which opens on Thursday, 9th October, 2008.

Big names and little names alike will not be available for a close up inspection. Well known brands and new brands are amongst the missing.

The "missing" brands include:

  • Alfa Romeo
  • Aston Martin
  • Audi
  • Bentley
  • BMW
  • Caterham
  • Chery (from China)
  • Citroen
  • Fiat
  • Great Wall (from China)
  • Hummer
  • Jaguar
  • Land Rover
  • Mahindra
  • Maybach
  • Mercedes-Benz
  • Mini
  • Morgan
  • Porsche
  • Proton
  • Rolls-Royce
  • Saab
  • Smart
  • SsangYong

The significant gap in popular models takes the shine off this annual event and suggests the Sydney Motor Show is now in the same position as the Melbourne Motor Show. Both shows are charging "full fare" but providing less than a full show of products from a high profile industry.

Brands attending the 2008 Sydney Motor Show include Bolwell, Bufori, Cadillac, Chrysler, Dodge, Elfin, Ferrari, Ford, FPV, Holden, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, Jeep, Kia, Koenigsegg, Lamborghini, Lexus, Lotus, Maserati, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, Skoda, Subaru, Suzuki, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo.
