  • Audi again demonstrates TDI market leadership in Australia
  • Two efficient new engines join the Audi A6 model line-up
  • Progressive performance is a way of life at Audi
  • Audi’s fresher, sportier A6 sedan range now has two new 'siblings' this month with the arrival of the fuel-sipping 2.0 TDI and 2.7 TDI engines which boast excellent performance and exceptional efficiency.

    Every variant in Audi’s A6 model line offers premium interiors and dynamic handling, and the introduction of the new and efficient TDI engines mean that customers are completely exempt from the Luxury Car Tax thanks to combined fuel consumption of just 5.8 litres for the new 2.0 TDI, and partially exempt from LCT for the 2.7 TDI which boasts consumption of just 6.4 litres/100km.

    With the addition of these latest TDI engines, Audi now offers customers the largest range of highly efficient engines with consumption of 7.0 litres or below - a total of 21 vehicles – which are either exempt, or benefit significantly from reduced LCT as is the case for vehicles priced over $75,000.

    Both new A6 engines are powerful and extremely efficient, however there are even more new measures available to optimise performance and minimise fuel consumption without sacrificing driving pleasure. Emissions are also correspondingly low and the new additions are yet another building block in Audi’s progressive performance philosophy.

    Efficiency measures include;

    • Friction reduction management on both pistons and cylinder liners which have been redesigned for maximum efficiency in operation.
    • Ancillary measures including a redesigned power steering pump and new two-stage oil pump.
    • Improved gearbox measures such as optimised transmission ratios.

    In fact, consumption across the entire A6 sedan range has been lowered by an average 12 – 15 per cent.

    The A6 2.0 TDI turbocharged diesel engine offers 125 kW of power and an impressive 350 Nm of torque. With a combined fuel consumption of just 5.8 litres/100 km the A6 2.0 TDI is one of the most efficient vehicles in its class. Matched to Audi’s multitronic transmission the 2.0 TDI sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds and continues to a top speed of 218 km/h.

    The seamless 2.7 TDI is the second V6 diesel engine to be introduced to the A6 sedan range. With 140 kW of power and 380 Nm of torque, this engine easily sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds to achieve a top speed of 227 km/h. Combined with a multitronic transmission, the 2.7 TDI offers a combined fuel consumption of just 6.4 litres/100 km.

    The new TDI engines on offer are evidence of just how closely Audi has been able to align sporty performance and efficiency. Fuel is delivered by the extremely sophisticated and quiet system of common rails with rapid-action Piezo injectors and an injection pressure of 1,800 bar.

    A refined suspension system and high-tech assistance systems further enhance the driving experience of the whole A6 range.

    Globally, the Audi A6 range is the leader in its class, out-performing core competitor offerings. In 2008, Audi sold 221,050 units around the world.
