A family of three have taken delivery of the 6,000th BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle sold in Australia.

The Alpine White X3 xDrive20d Lifestyle with M Sport Package was handed over to Andrew and Branca McFarlane and daughter Sienna this week. It is their second BMW X3 and their first diesel.

The delivery signals a key milestone in sales of the agile urban-friendly adventure machine that brought BMW quality and excitement to the compact all-terrain market.

The milestone vehicle features BMW’s latest EfficientDynamics technology endowing it with an impressive fuel consumption figure of just 6.7 litres per 100 km.

The selection of a replacement for the family’s first BMW X3 was a simple one.

“We selected the BMW X3 three years ago when Branca was pregnant,” Andrew said. “We wanted a car that offered good performance, was secure, stable and a good family vehicle.”

“I wanted the flexibility of an SUV, one that was the right size for me and gave a good ride,” Branca said.

“The BMW X3 has been the complete package,” Andrew said. “And the service has been faultless over 45,000 km. We just put petrol in, drove off and enjoyed it.”

“For the new car we chose white this time instead of black and diesel over petrol for the environmental benefits. The diesel puts out less carbon dioxide emissions,” Andrew said.

“We also added a Panorama sunroof and the M Sport Package with the bigger wheels and sports seats.”

The smooth and frugal 2.0-litre diesel power plant joined the X3 family in 2008 and already accounts for more than 70 per cent of all X3 sales.

The BMW X3 xDrive20d is currently amongst the most fuel efficient premium compact SUVs on Australian roads and is priced from $62,200*.
