Golden Jubilee For Caterham Seven

27th May, 2007

Caterham Seven

Caterham is planning a birthday party with a difference to celebrate the Seven’s Golden Jubilee, taking over the Donington Park circuit next month for a full weekend of high-speed excitement.

Around 300 racing Caterhams are expected at the Leicestershire circuit on 2nd-3rd June, 2007, with hundreds more road-going cars due to attend to make the Seven’s 50th birthday celebration the largest-ever gathering of the machine which Lotus founder and automotive design genius Colin Chapman unveiled in 1957.

In addition to the two days of thrilling race action visitors will be able to see a multitude of static displays. “It’s going to be a fantastic weekend and a brilliant celebration of the Seven’s 50th birthday,” said Caterham Motorsport Director Magnus Laird. “There will be 19 races, all of them certain to provide the close overtaking action for which Caterham is rightly renowned, and a host of displays and paddock activities which will ensure a marvellous weekend for all.”

The static displays will include a collection of historic Lotus and Caterham Sevens owned by Caterham founder Graham Nearn, plus historic Lotus Formula 1 cars owned by Clive Chapman’s Classic Team Lotus and cars from the Historic Lotus Register.

On the track there will be races for the novices of the Circuit Driver Caterham Academy, the intermediate-level racers of the Motorsport News Caterham Roadsport Challenge, as well as the stars of the Avon Tyres Caterham Superlight Challenge and the evo Caterham Eurocup. There will also be races for historic Sevens, the French national Caterham championship and the Caterham Graduates Club.

Race day programmes are numbered, and there will be spot prize draws during the weekend and a range of merchandise up for grabs.

Donington Park is situated close to East Midlands Airport, near the M1 (Junction 23a) and the M42/A42.
