Ferrari is recalling 192 units across two model lines, namely the 458 Italia and California. Just two of the affected models, one of each, were sold in Australia.

A hazard exists with a potential crankshaft failure which could cause an engine seizure and, as a consequence, possible loss of control of the vehicle. The problem is a result of a machining fault.

Internal testing at Ferrari discovered the fault and no failures have been reported in customer owned cars.

Ferrari's Q1 sales

In other Ferrari news, some 1,733 units were delivered to the global dealer network during the first quarter in 2012. The USA remains the brand's largest market. Domestic sales in Italy have fallen though. However, the UK remains a vital market for Ferrari with sales totalling 177 units in Q1. This result easily beats the combined sales in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan of 154 units.

New F12 Berlinetta

Ferrari's new model, the V12-engined F12 Berlinetta, will be released in Europe later this year. It is scheduled to arrive in Australia during Q1 2013.
