A new special edition Falcon was revealed at the Melbourne Motor Show, alongside an expanded range of dedicated E-Gas Falcons.

"Falcon is the longest running continuous name plate in Australian automotive history, and it's appropriate that we reveal the exciting new Falcon SR at the Melbourne Show – the home of Ford in Australia," said Ford Australia President, Tom Gorman.

The special edition Falcon SR retains the renowned BF cornerstones of economy, performance, refinement and safety, also comes complete with a generous allocation of additional features.

"A four speed automatic transmission with Sequential Sports Shift, sports control blade independent rear suspension, 17" alloy wheels and a sports style leather wrap steering wheel contribute to Falcon SR's exhilarating dynamic driving experience," said Mr Gorman.

"Enhancements to the exterior appearance of the Falcon SR are provided via a high arched rear spoiler, and occupant safety is improved thanks to side airbags for driver and front passenger and a reverse sensing system."

The interior of the vehicle is complemented by a unique designer sports trim, while rear power windows and a prestige audio system with LCD display screen and 6-disc in-dash CD complete the package.

"Falcon SR represents exceptional value for money, as its recommended offer price of $33,490* is less than the price of an XT – but offers an additional $7,000 of features," said Mr Gorman.

"Falcon is one of Australia's most popular name plates, and we expect this special edition Falcon SR to sell like the proverbial hot cakes."

Ford has also introduced E-Gas across a wider variety of BF models.

"Ford Australia was the first local manufacturer to develop a dedicated LPG engine, and in this age of fluctuating fuel prices we are pleased to be able to expand the range of vehicles which offer the E-Gas alternative," said Mr Gorman.

The full range of BF models now available with the E-Gas engine includes Falcon XT (sedan and wagon), Futura (sedan and wagon), the special edition Falcon SR, Fairmont and XR6 ute**.

E-Gas is a $1,400 (RRP) option, but this cost can be recouped within approximately a year of motoring, or even sooner if petrol prices trend upwards.

"Ford Australia has long recognised the viability of utilising alternative fuel sources, and we hope that the expansion of our E-Gas range will result in more people considering this option," said Mr Gorman.

"E-Gas drivers will save money every time they refuel as it costs considerably less to fill a car with LPG."

The new range of E-Gas vehicles will be available for sale in April.

*Excluding dealer delivery and statutory charges
**E-Gas is only available with automatic transmission.
