Glass Roof For Ford Mustang

6th January, 2008

2009 Ford Mustang (with Glass Roof option)

North American Ford Mustang enthusiasts have yet another choice, with a segment-first factory-installed fixed glass roof available in early (northern) summer of 2008.

Paul Randle, Chief Engineer of the Mustang says there will be an unlimited number available for consumers.

This affordable option is available with either a V-6 or a V-8 engine. Randle says not many cars have an all Glass roof.

"But the cars that do, stand out. It's a wonderful feature, there has been a huge growth in North American market with large panoramic glass roof's. At SEMA we saw a Mustang from one of the supplier partners that had a glass roof and we sat in it and we looked at each other and we said we got a do it."

Randle says the properties of the glass help keep the Mustang cool and quiet with acoustic and laminated solar reflective glass that limits temperature increases and preserves interior quietness.

"This is solar, acoustic, reflective glass. So the solar reflectivity of the properties of the glass ensure that the climate control within the vehicle is to the same level as a basic coupe and the acoustic properties maintain the NVH level in cab same as the coupe. In terms of wind noise, we have a special little moulding at the front edge of the glass that trips the wind and it's just not an issue."

If you prefer not to have the wide-open skies about you and want to limit the amount of sunlight filtering through this all glass roof, Randle says, just pull down the shade.

"We have a shade, a one-piece shade that comes from the back of the car and it rolls out to the front, lots of absorbtion, you can just cover it up and it looks just like a coupe when you do that."

Randles says for those who have never sat in an glass roof vehicle, the sky is the limit. It's designed to give you that convertible feeling and vision without the wind and noise.

"The overall experience of being able to sit in the car fully enclosed and the comfort of a coupe and just look up, see the sky, is beautiful."

Job #1 for the 2009 Glass-Roof Mustang is set for the first week in May 2008 with the car available in showrooms by mid-May.
