The new 2011 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited have been released in Australia with a host of upgrades, from an all-new interior to an upgraded turbo diesel powerplant that delivers significantly more power and economy.

In the brand’s 70th year, Jeep continues to refine the successful Wrangler formula by combining its legendary, benchmark capability with an all-new interior that delivers rich styling with impressively upgraded touch surfaces, occupant comfort and versatility.

"The iconic Jeep Wrangler just keeps getting better," said Dean Bonthorne, Senior Manager – Marketing & Corporate Communications, Chrysler Australia.

"While retaining unmatched off-road capability, the 2011 Jeep Wrangler boasts a stunning all-new interior that delivers a host of comfort, convenience and versatility features. In addition, the optional turbo diesel engine has received a healthy power upgrade, yet with remarkably improved fuel economy that would raise the eyebrows of many hatchback owners."

New 2011 Jeep Wrangler interior highlights include a redesigned instrument panel, new storage areas with improved ergonomics and upgraded materials. A new lockable console and upgraded door armrest areas boast comfortable touch points, while a smoothly redesigned centre stack is easier to reach and operate. In a first for the model, heated, power mirrors are now standard, whilst drivers and passengers alike will enjoy enhanced visibility courtesy of larger rear windows on the popular ‘Freedom Top’ three-piece hardtop option.

The all-new leather-wrapped steering wheel features controls that allow the driver to operate the CD/DVD/MP3 audio, cruise control and other vehicle functions while keeping hands on the wheel. In line with traditional Jeep design, hex-head bolts are utilised throughout the interior, and are used to mount a “Jeep, Since 1941” inlay onto the new passenger grab handle.

Jeep engineers increased acoustical treatment in the 2011 Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited, resulting in significantly reduced interior noise.

In addition to the best-selling 3.8L V6 petrol engine, customers can opt for the upgraded 2.8 L CRD turbo diesel which, at 147 kW @ 3,600 rpm, has benefited from an extra 17 kW of power whilst delivering combined cycle fuel economy of just 7.1 L/100 km when matched to the 6-speed manual transmission.

Further enhancing the manual diesel models’ economy, new Start-Stop technology is standard. This shuts down the engine when the vehicle is in neutral and the clutch released, then restarts when the clutch is depressed. Just the thing for heavy traffic during urban adventures.

Now compliant with Euro V emission standards and featuring a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) as standard, this CRD powerplant is also now available with the same 5-speed automatic transmission found on the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, to deliver an impressive 460 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm.

For those wanting the absolute last word in off-road capability, the legendary Rubicon variants of the Wrangler range continue to be equipped with standard remote locking differentials with heavy duty Dana 44 solid axles front and rear, electronically-controlled swaybar disconnect, the tough Rock-Trac® transfer case, 4.10:1 axle ratio, heavy duty rock rails, Freedom Top, premium audio and much more.

The 2011 Jeep Wrangler range is now on sale in Australia and several new colours such as Mango Tango, Deep Cherry Red, Cosmos Blue and Bright White are available.
