Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited Launched
25th May, 2007
The Jeep Wrangler and four-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited have been released in Australia, initiating the 2007 expansion of the Jeep vehicle line-up.
The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler is the culmination of evolutionary, authentic Jeep styling and a legacy of 65-years of off-road performance.
The new Wrangler is more than 133 millimetres (mm) wider overall, 99 mm wider in track and boasts greater capability off-road, more on-road refinement, better interior ergonomics and a dramatically brawnier appearance.
The all-new Wrangler has a starting price of only $30,990 (Recommended Retail Price - RRP).
The four-door Wrangler Unlimited is priced from $34,990 (RRP) - the longer wheel-base open-air design expanding the Jeep experience to new dimensions with room for five adult passengers – a Wrangler first – and more gear.
Notably, for the first time ever in a civilian model, the new Jeep Wrangler range will be available with a diesel engine, a 2.8-litre common-rail turbo diesel, which is joined by a 3.8-litre V6 petrol engine.
Gerry Jenkins, managing director for the Chrysler Group in Australia said enabling customers to ‘go anywhere, do anything’ at a great value was a prime consideration in the development of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited.
“The Jeep Wrangler is the undisputed global icon in four-wheel driving,” said Jenkins.
“And to have the best ever Wrangler arriving for sale in Australia priced from just $30,990 (RRP) gets my four-wheel drive juices bubbling!"
“Australians are already in love with the Wrangler – we are the biggest market in the world for the four-wheel drive icon outside of North America - it suits our thirst for adventure and freedom and there’s just nothing else like it on the market."
“The new Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited take rugged capability and refinement to new levels providing tremendous value to a range of customers and with our sharp pricing we expect the love affair to prosper,” said Jenkins.
The new Wrangler builds on the successful, original Jeep formula with an all-new frame, exterior and interior design, engines and safety and convenience features.
The Wrangler Unlimited expands the Jeep experience even more featuring a 2,947 mm wheelbase, achieved by adding 523 mm to the standard Wrangler’s 2,424 mm wheelbase. This allows for a larger rear seat that features three seating positions, as well as more hip room, legroom, shoulder room and cargo space. This increases the Wrangler’s everyday practicality without compromising its off road capability.
Offered in three models – Sport, Renegade and Rubicon – the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited feature a lean, rugged and simple design, achieving benchmark off-road capability while delivering a true open-air driving experience. With solid axles, removable doors, exposed hinges, a fold-down windshield and innovative removable and convertible tops, all Wrangler models retain the brand’s coveted core values of freedom, adventure, mastery and authenticity.
With dozens of different top, door and windshield combinations, nine unique exterior colours and available 16 or 17-inch wheels, the all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler provides a customised appearance for a variety of customers.

Jeep product offensive
The addition of new Jeep models – the Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot and all-new Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited (four-door) - will grow the brand’s stable to six models in Australia, joining the mid-sized Cherokee, flagship Grand Cherokee and seven-seat Commander.
Jeep, one of the most recognised brands in the world, celebrated its 65th anniversary in 2006. In 1941, the Willys-Overland company delivered to the US Army 1,500 light reconnaissance vehicles called the Willys Quad. Improved vehicles were called the MA and MB, but eventually, those vehicles came to be known as the Jeep. More than 368,000 were built for use during World War II.
In a massive survey conducted in the UK and the USA by Warranty Direct, Jeep was named 33rd out of 33 brands in relation to reliability issues.
