Mahindra Returns To Australia

7th June, 2007

Mahindra Pikup Dual Cab utility

TMI Pacific, an arm of Sydney’s Tynan Motor Group, has announced the New South Wales launch of the highly anticipated utility vehicle from renowned Indian automotive giant Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M).

The Pik-Up from Mahindra, signals a rugged and value for money offer that the market has shown much interest in to date. It has a 2.5 litre common rail turbo diesel engine which meets Euro 4 emission standards. The vehicle produces 79 kW of power and 247 Nm of torque and will be available in single or dual cab to Australian buyers this month. Initially, New South Wales dealers are in the set-up stage, whilst Queensland and Victoria will see the new ute in approximately six months. Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory will have dealers appointed during 2008.

The Chairman of TMI Pacific and the Tynan Motor Group of companies, Michael Tynan said, “We have been in the auto business for more than 40 years and have built a name in the market based on integrity and trust. I’m so pleased with this new initiative, which has me just as excited as I was starting this company so long ago. Our business partner M&M is a perfect fit as it’s family owned with similar values that has stood the test of time for more than 60 years in its home market."

“As per our initial plans, we have secured 10 dealers for the Mahindra Pik-Up in NSW, and anticipate a complete national roll out with a network of 50 dealers by the middle of next year. TMI Pacific, which will operate from a newly acquired 15,000m2 head office in Sutherland, will be dedicated to servicing the Australian market with all after-market services, spare parts distribution and technical training of specialists."

“Our thorough market testing in tough and rugged conditions has ensured that the vehicle will deliver on the expectations of the Australian driver. We feel that the vehicle will strongly appeal to rural consumers and tradesmen, however, its large tray, price and cabin size especially in the four door, will also appeal to sportspeople and families. On that basis we have no doubt that we’ll be able to fulfill our initial projection of 600 units sold in the first year,” said Tynan.

Dr. Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive Sector, M&M, said, “The Mahindra Pik-Up is of a special pedigree in the Mahindra stable. It was the first Indian vehicle in its segment to be unveiled in a global market. This launch is another milestone as it marks an entry into another continent for the vehicle. Our dream is to be a household name in this country by providing world-class value for money products that cater to local needs and aspirations. As many across the globe have discovered, Australians will also find that the Mahindra Pik-Up will fulfill their demand for quality at a value for money price.”

Pravin Shah, Executive Vice President, Automotive Sector, and in-charge of International Operations, M&M Ltd., said “The Mahindra Pik-Up is a powerful set of wheels and reinforces Mahindra’s technology-driven product range for global customers. Its state-of-the-art external and internal features are based on customer needs our research has identified. We consider it an honour to be presenting our Pik-Up to Australian customers, who are known to be amongst the most demanding in the world. We are confident that TMI Pacific, with their experience in the auto business are extremely capable of making this happen.”
