  • Powerful: 420 kW/650 Nm 6.2 litre AMG petrol V8
  • Popular: first consignment almost sold out

Mercedes-Benz has announced Australian pricing for the stunning new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG “Gullwing” sports car.

The much anticipated high-performance coupé has a manufacturer’s list price of $464,000.

Following its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year, series production of the SLS AMG is now well underway in Sindelfingen, Germany - the largest Mercedes-Benz passenger car production plant.

“The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has been extremely well received by our customers in Australia with more than forty orders already locked in,” said Horst von Sanden, managing director of Mercedes-Benz Cars in Australia.

“Despite the fact that the first customer cars have not yet arrived and with deliveries not expected until August the order book is filling fast.”

“Even in advance of the actual market launch, orders have considerably exceeded our expectations. This shows that the exciting design and extraordinary concept of our gullwing model precisely meet the taste and aspirations of potential customers.”

“Given the impressive demand we are experiencing for this special car our stock allocation for 2010 could well be insufficient,” speculated von Sanden.

A new legend delivering exceptional performance

The new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG dazzles with its purist design, intelligent light weight construction and superior handling dynamics, and has already caused a sensation in the super sports car segment.

The new SLS AMG is nothing short of a masterpiece by Mercedes-AMG GmbH. As its first completely independently developed vehicle, this super sports car is the highlight in the company's more-than 40 year history. It shows that AMG has development expertise at the highest level.

The unrivalled technology package of the SLS is an alluring proposition: aluminium spaceframe body with gullwing doors, AMG 6.2 litre V8 front-mid-engine developing 420 kW peak output, 650 Nm of torque and dry sump lubrication, seven-speed double-declutch transmission in a transaxle configuration, sports suspension with aluminium double wishbones and a kerb weight of 1,620 kilogrammes based on the DIN standard. This superlative combination guarantees driving dynamics of the highest order.

With a front/rear weight distribution of 47 to 53 per cent and the vehicle's low centre of gravity, this extraordinary combination guarantees performance figures at the top level. The gullwing model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in an amazing 3.8 seconds, and has an electronically limited top speed of 317 km/h. A fuel consumption figure of 13.3 litres per 100 kilometres (combined cycle, according to ADR 81/02) makes it one of the best in its competitive segment.

The all-new SLS AMG’s manufacturer’s list price (MLP) of $464,000 provides customers with impressive value. It boasts an extraordinary array of standard equipment along with racing car-levels of performance.

NOTE: The price indicated in this news story is the current Manufacturer’s List Price (MLP) for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. As such, this price excludes dealer delivery fees and the various statutory charges (such as registration fees, stamp duty, CTP and the like, which are imposed by state/territory governments). These add-on figures vary from dealer to dealer and between the states and territories.
