Mitsubishi Staff Help Salvos Go The Extra Mile

The Salvation Army help people in many ways, but last Friday they received some much appreciated assistance of their own.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Employees’ Canteen Society has proudly donated a brand-new Mitsubishi Pajero and specially designed catering trailer to the Salvation Army. The new equipment is fully kitted-out with everything necessary for responding safely and quickly to an emergency situation, including a barbeque, oven, generator, lighting, urns, hot food containers, seating, tables and shelters.

Mitsubishi’s Canteen Society is a not-for-profit organisation founded by employees over thirty years ago. Excess funds raised through canteen sales are routinely donated to charities by the Society, which is run by a board of employees, staff and union representatives. The Board makes all decisions about donations.

“The MMAL Employees’ Canteen Society is very proud to be in a position to help the Salvation Army,” said Society President Bill Greene.

The donation was also made possible due to the fantastic generosity of MMAL President and CEO Robert McEniry, Executive Vice-President of Operations Grant Hanan and General Manager of National Fleet and Diamond Certification David Conway, says Mr Greene.

The Salvation Army has been active in Australia since 1880, and helps tens of thousands of Australians each week. The new Pajero will also be used to pick up donations, transport elderly and disabled patients to and from doctors’ appointments and the hospital, and collect supplies for the Salvation Army’s ongoing work in the community.

The vehicle and trailer were handed over to Salvation Army State Director John Dunkley, who gratefully received the donation on behalf of the Noarlunga Emergency Services division. The equipment will be housed and maintained in the Noarlunga division under the direction of Captain Robert Evans.

The Mitsubishi Employees’ Canteen Society has also recently made donations to the Royal Flying Doctors’ Service and the South Australian Surf Life-Saving Club, continuing their dedication to helping those who help others.
