Declining Market Equals Success For Mitsubishi

7th November, 2008

Mitsubishi Lancer (copyright image) With strong overall sales for October, Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) saw substantial growth in their imported product line-up over last year.

Despite a generally slowing automotive market, down 11.4 per cent from September, and down 0.9 per cent year to date, MMAL’s total imported October sales reached 4,442, a marked 7.5 per cent improvement on a year-to-year basis. With MMAL’s year to date imported sales up 10.2 per cent to 49,074 units, Mitsubishi are faring very well in such a challenging sales environment.

The Lancer range continues to perform well, reporting 6.5 percent growth month on month, with a total of 1,496 Lancers sold throughout October. With the recent addition of the Sportback, Ralliart and Aspire to the Lancer family, MMAL is anticipating a further increase in sales as the popularity of the small car market grows.

Mitsubishi’s Triton 4x2 experienced exceptional growth, reporting more than a 96 per cent improvement in sales year-on-year, with a total of 700 units sold last month. With the latest engine technology, a high payload capacity, style and interior comfort, the Triton 4x4 also performed well with a sales growth of 14.6 per cent over September 2008.

Mitsubishi’s crossover-SUV, the Outlander was also a star performer with a reported 10.1 percent growth in sales year on year, despite high competition in its segment.

Mitsubishi’s versatile seven-seater Grandis, the sturdy Express van, and the dynamic Colt with its distinctive European styling all reported solid sales in their respective market segments, with Colt sales up 38.3 per cent on last year with 336 units for the month.

The Pajero medium SUV continues to hold its own in an unstable market sector, reporting a slight (6.5 per cent / 29 unit) sales decrease from the month of September.

President and chief executive officer of MMAL, Robert McEniry is pleased by the month’s reported sales results.

“We have some really strong performers in the Mitsubishi line-up. Lancer continues to report high sales, and the Triton 4x2 and 4x4 have sold phenomenally well. We have great products that have seen us excel in the growth areas of the Australian automotive market, and with some exciting new products, we are well positioned for further future success,” said McEniry.
