Mitsubishi Motors Australia has updated its Outlander SUV range with more aggressive styling, fresh interior trims, retuned suspension and a new emergency stop signal feature, while petrol-powered Outlander models gain interior NVH improvements and upgraded CVT transmission.

Mitsubishi’s new and improved mid-sized Outlander SUV adopts a sportier front and rear design to give it a stronger, more dynamic on-road presence.

Outlander’s updated exterior takes cues from Mitsubishi’s future design language, which the company previewed at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show with its Pajero-based GC-PHEV and compact XR-PHEV SUV concepts.

Leading the Outlander revisions is a new twin-blade horizontal grille that sits flush with the bonnet edge, enhancing a bolder Mitsubishi diamond badge at the centre. The upper bumper is also more prominent, giving the Outlander a more 'muscular' appearance, while a new black gloss-finished mid-grille complements the new twin-blade design. A silver skid plate and fog lamps with chrome bezels strengthen the sculptural form of the front guards and bumper bar.

Outlander also gains a rear silver skid plate, along with black wheel arches that highlight the alloy wheels and link the new front and rear styling. Silver roof rails complete the Outlander’s distinctive new look.

Range-topping Outlander Aspire models are fitted with 10-spoke 18-inch grey machine-faced alloy wheels and LED tail lamps, further enhancing its premium character, while a new metallic Red exterior colour has been added to the range.

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi has added trim changes to freshen Outlander’s interior. The entry level Outlander ES features a new black cloth seat trim, while LS models gain black cloth seat trim with leather inserts and chrome door handles.  Aspire is now fitted with a textured silver garnish across the instrument panel and front doors.

Mitsubishi has fitted the 14.5 model year Outlander with Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) – a feature that flashes the hazard warning lights under heavy braking to alert vehicles approaching from behind. The new active safety feature adds to Outlander’s already comprehensive list of standard equipment and five-star rating, including seven airbags, rear parking sensors, reverse camera, Active Stability Control, Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body and Hill Start Control.

Forward Collision Mitigation and Adaptive Cruise Control are standard on Aspire.

Also updated at 14.5 model year is Outlander’s suspension calibration, which has been adjusted with a new spring mount isolator for improved roll control and primary ride giving the Outlander more balance in cornering, particularly in mid-corner stability.  Overall vehicle dynamics are also enhanced through retuned shock absorbers and a unique damper tune to further improve handling balance and ride comfort.

NVH upgrades across all 2.0 and 2.4-litre petrol models are designed to significantly reduce the transfer of engine and road noise throughout the vehicle, resulting in a quieter cabin ambience. Outlander petrol models also gain an upgraded CVT to deliver better all-round performance and launch feel.

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited Executive Director of Marketing Tony Principe said the upgraded Outlander line-up sets the scene for the Australian arrival of the ground breaking PHEV-equipped Outlander – the world’s first plug-in hybrid electric SUV – in April.

“Outlander’s 14.5 model year update is part of our long term strategy to respond to changing market needs, and better positions Mitsubishi to compete in the family-oriented medium SUV segment,” he said.

“When we introduced the new generation Outlander, customers told us they really liked Outlander’s cabin space and ergonomics and they were pleasantly surprised by its high level of safety and convenience features, but wanted Outlander to have a more distinctive on-road presence. We’ve listened to this customer feedback and introduced an Outlander range that is better than ever.”

“Thanks to upgrades introduced at 14.5 model year, Outlander has new, eye-catching styling, updated interior trim along with all of the technology, comfort, convenience features and low running costs customers expect from Mitsubishi, while petrol models are now quieter and have a more responsive CVT transmission for stronger all-round performance.”

“With the choice of efficient 2.2-litre diesel, 2.0 or 2.4-litre petrol engines, Mitsubishi’s five- year/130,000km new car warranty, four-year Capped Price Servicing, five-star ANCAP safety rating and family-friendly design, Outlander continues to be one of the best value SUVs in Australia.”

The updated Outlander range is now available at Mitsubishi Motors dealers nationally.
