Mitsubishi Pajero Marks 25 Years In Australia

Next Car's favourite compact 4x4, the hardy, powerful and almost unstoppable off-road, Mitsubishi Pajero is celebrating its twenty-fifth year of sales in Australia. To commemorate one of its most successful models, Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) will be releasing a special anniversary limited edition.

The Pajero entered the market in the 1980’s just as Australia’s interest in exploring off road and experiencing the great outdoors enjoyed a boom in popularity. First introduced as a short wheelbase model, the more familiar five-door variant of Pajero soon followed.

Over the next 25 years, the Pajero stood out amongst the growing crowd of four-wheel-drives, largely because it maintained its original serious off-road image and inherent toughness, emphasised by twelve successive wins in the famous Dakar Rally, while adding luxuries usually only found in more expensive European models. This lead to the Pajero winning a string of sought-after awards: the most recent being “2007 4X4 of the Year”.

The 25th Anniversary Limited Edition of the Pajero continues this trend, combining a strong, reliable engine and chassis with interior comfort and elegance. Based on the current VRX model, the Anniversary Edition is available with either a 3.8-litre V6 SOHC 24-valve MIVEC petrol engine, or a 3.2-litre CDI DOHC 16-valve intercooled turbo diesel engine. Both are matched to a five-speed automatic transmission with Sports Mode sequential style shift change and INVECS II Smart Logic system.

Packed with extra features, the Limited Edition Pajero includes the safety of reverse parking sensors and camera, the convenience of satellite navigation and the added protection of side and curtain airbags.

Adding to the Pajero’s comfort factor are heated front seats and rear manual air conditioning, allowing those in the spacious back seats to regulate temperature and airflow. The front driver’s seat is also power adjustable, ensuring a perfect position, and all seats are leather trimmed. Leather look trim on the doors and console lid add to the elegant feel of the interior.

Each Pajero carries a ‘25th Anniversary Limited Edition’ badge and is fitted with specially designed carpet mats.
