Peugeot 308 HDi Drives Coast to Coast in South Africa on One Tank of Fuel

27th November, 2008

Peugeot 308 (copyright image) A Peugeot 308 HDi has driven exactly 1,689.7 kms across South Africa on a single tank of diesel, achieving a fuel efficiency of an amazingly low 3.4 litres/100 km.

The car completed its “Coast2Coast” challenge by arriving in Umhlanga after setting off from the small town of Kleinzee on the northern Cape coast.

Peugeot devised the Coast2Coast Challenge to showcase the ultra-efficiency of the medium size hatchback, and highlight the need for motorists to drive fuel-efficiently in order to reduce their impact on the environment.

Mike Wilson, Marketing Manager for Peugeot Motors South Africa said: "We knew the 308 HDi was incredibly light on fuel, but we were pleasantly surprised when we pulled up near Durban on the same tank of fuel that it had set off with on the other side of South Africa".

"The success demonstrates that when technology designed with the environment in mind is allied to a fuel efficient driving style, the increased distance between refuelling stops can be startling."

This achievement is on top of the recently earned Guinness World Record for fuel efficiency in Australia, where an average distance of 1,919 kilometres was achieved per tank on a drive around the country. With the outstanding low CO2 emission levels and clean air particle filter system, the Peugeot 308 is making its mark internationally in socially responsible circles.
