30th January, 2006

With the GT class victory in their TPC Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car, Ian Baas, Randy Pobst, Spencer Pumpelly and Michael Levitas (all USA) secured a record 35th win for the Porsche 911 at the traditional 24 hour race at Daytona. The all-American team finished one lap ahead of a factory Pontiac GTO-R. The 911 was ranked ninth overall.

Securing third place behind the Pontiac was Dirk Werner (Germany), Philipp Peter (Monaco), Dieter Quester (Austria) and Luca Riccitelli (Italy) with their Farnbacher Loles Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

A Porsche-powered Daytona prototype, entered by Alex Job Racing, took the chequered flag third in the overall rankings. Porsche works drivers Lucas Luhr, Mike Rockenfeller (both Monaco) and Patrick Long (USA) led the race for the first two hours before being forced into the pits with a broken right rear axle.

From the back of the field the trio fought their way up to retake the lead in the 17th hour, only to pit again shortly afterwards with the same problem. Taking up the race from sixth position Luhr and his team mates finally crossed the finish line in third. The Alex Job Racing pilots profited from the bad luck of the Brumos Porsche Fabcar squad led by works driver Sascha Maassen, which lost third place to Luhr and his team mates just 20 minutes before the finish with a puncture.
