The theme of “Black” special edition cars continues at Porsche with the introduction of the Cayman S Black Edition.

Just 500 units of the mid-engined coupe are to be built, each boasting better performance and equipment yet priced exactly the same as today’s Cayman S at $147,500*.

Power from the 3.4 litre six-cylinder boxer engine is increased by 7 kW to 243 kW at 7,400 rpm (an additional 200 rpm) while maximum torque remains unchanged at 370 Nm at 4,750 rpm.

Acceleration times are shaved by 0.1 secs as a result – the 0-100 km/h sprint now taking 5.1 secs with the six-speed manual gearbox, 5.0 secs with optional seven-speed PDK or 4.8 secs with PDK and the activation of Launch Control with the further optional Sport Chrono package. Top speed is 279 km/h.

The Porsche Cayman S Black Edition gains 19-inch Boxster Spyder wheels in black, which are not only one-inch taller than the standard Cayman S wheels but are also half an inch wider than the optional 19 inch wheels available on the coupe. Tyres are 235/35 ZR 19s on the front and 265/35 ZR 19s on the rear.

Additional standard equipment on the Cayman S includes Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic cornering lights, automatic anti-dazzle interior and exterior mirrors with integrated rain sensor, Porsche crest on the head restraints and a Sport Design steering wheel.

As the name suggests, this new addition to the Cayman range is available only in black and with numerous interior details in black, including: dashboard trim, gear lever/selector trim and instrument dials. The words “Black Edition” feature on the door entry sills while the glove box lid lists the limited edition build number.

The Cayman S Black Edition will sell alongside the regular Cayman S and Cayman models, with deliveries beginning in September.

NOTE: * Manufacturer's List Price (MLP) excludes dealer delivery fees and the numerous statutory charges (commonly known as on-road costs). Additionally, please note that all prices, fees and charges are subject to change without notice, as are the specifications.
