The new Saab 9-5 made its first appearance in
Australia today at the Melbourne International Motor Show.
With a bold new face inspired by the Saab 9X concept car and all-new front
bodywork, Saab’s flagship 9-5 range boasts a muscular appearance and more
powerful road presence.
Every element forward of the A-pillar is a new design, including the fully
integrated front bumper and wide opening radiator grille.
The headlamp design adds to the powerful appearance, with the light clusters
edged in chrome and backed in black. Halogen projector headlamps are standard on
the 9-5 range with bi-xenon headlamps standard on 9-5 Aero models.
The frontal design, including the lower bumper, accentuates Saab’s
characteristic triple-section design. Colour coordinated body sills, mouldings
and handles also accentuate the dynamic lines of the car, with new Saab colours
Arbor Green, Fusion Blue and Jet Black added to the range.
The new 9-5 features a dramatic, new interior which adds to the sporty feel.
The new instrumentation and controls are set against a dark back drop with
chrome highlights and Parchment headlining across the range.
Under the bonnet, 9-5 also boasts performance and handling improvements in
keeping with its dynamic styling. The front assembly is 40 per cent more rigid
than its predecessor, with better road holding and steering precision.
Saab Australia will offer petrol only versions of the 9-5 at this time.
Although Saab has seen very strong sales of its diesel and ethanol BioPower 9-5
models in Europe.
For the local market, the 9-5 range retains the turbocharged 2.3 litre
engine, with Aero receiving a power upgrade to 191kW.
In luxury Sedan and SportEstate models, the new Saab 9-5 range will launch in
Australia and New Zealand in the second quarter of this year.
