With sales of well over 1.5 million worldwide, the Skoda Fabia has now been confirmed for an Australian release later this year. The combination of low running costs, advanced powertrain technology and Skoda’s legendary value for money make the Fabia a welcome new-comer to the market.

The Fabia has a smooth and sophisticated look. The front end is dominated by a bold grille, headlights and bumper arrangement which make strong horizontal forms across the nose, giving the Fabia a low, 'masculine' stance. Trademark features of the Fabia are the distinctive wraparound windscreen and gloss black A-pillars. An added feature on the Fabia is the option of choosing a contrasting roof colour to further personalise the car.

Inside, the new Fabia’s entertainment system, steering wheel and materials provide an enjoyable driving environment. Chrome-trimmed air vent inserts, gearlever frame and handbrake button enhance the quality feel, as do high quality seat trim materials and air conditioning controls. Three-spoke leather steering wheel with radio and phone controls, multi-function trip computer, cruise control and Bluetooth® phone connectivity as standard further adds to the high comfort and convenience levels.

In terms of driver comfort, the new Fabia offers the driver a high driving position. This not only allows greater visibililty of the road ahead, it also makes access easier and more comfortable. All models feature height adjustment on the driver’s seat, along with height and reach adjustment on the steering wheel.

Practicality remains the core strength in the Fabia. All Fabia models boast large cabins and practical boot areas, and for the Fabia hatchback in particular, a generous 315 litres of boot space.

The Fabia balances the need of its passengers with the demands of its driver. In terms of road handling and comfort, the Fabia features MacPherson struts at the front, mounted to a three-part subframe. This assembly is attached to the bodywork with anti-vibration mounts that help to keep noise and vibration to a minimum.

The safety of passengers was one of the most crucial aspects in the development of the Fabia. The high safety level has been achieved by using the latest design methods, progressive technological solutions and state-ofthe-art vehicle construction techniques. Pedestrian safety was also a major target in the development and the bonnet and front bumper are designed in such a way that they deform on impact and absorb energy.

The Skoda Fabia will be available with a range of engines which are all designed and engineered to offer more performance, lower emissions and improved fuel consumption. Through the use of innovative technology, including turbocharging, supercharging and direct injection, Skoda’s engineers have been able to reduce engine capacities without harming performance.

Skoda will initially release two Fabia models – the Fabia 77TSI Hatchback, the Fabia Monte Carlo 77TSI - this year whilst the Fabia RS 132TSI and other models such as the Fabia Wagon, Roomster and other engines variants will be available in 2012.

Fabia 77TSI Hatchback

The internationally popular Fabia 77TSI Hatchback with a 1.2-litre TSI engine producing 77 kW is amongst the Fabia models featured for the first time in Australia. The 1.2-litre TSI engine uses direct injection and turbocharging to deliver a smooth and economical driving experience which also delivers a low combined fuel consumption of 5.5 L/100 km. The Fabia 77TSI is fitted as standard with a five-speed fully synchronised manual transmission and comes standard with six airbags and ESC (Electronic Stability Control) including ABS, ASR, EBD and Brake Assist. The highly regarded DSG transmission will be available from 2012.

More information about the Fabia 77TSI Hatchback will be released at launch later this year, so stay tuned to Next Car.

Fabia Monte Carlo 77TSI

This model is enhanced by sporty styling and a bespoke interior. Launched to celebrate 100 years of the legendary Monte Carlo Rally, and to commemorate the 110-year anniversary of Skoda’s motor sport involvement, this special edition model is a nod towards the brand’s sporting pedigree.

From the outside, the Fabia Monte Carlo boasts a dynamic look, underlined by the introduction of piano-black body trim, which extends over the wheelarches and down the full length of the car, a black roof, black exterior rear-view mirror covers, a black radiator grille, smoked headlights and black 16” lightweight alloy wheels.

To complete the enhanced sporty appeal silver kick plates and steel pedals are fitted as standard.

The Fabia Monte Carlo will be launched in conjunction with the Fabia 77TSI Hatchback later this year. More information will be available at launch.

Fabia RS 132TSI (for 2012 release)

With bold details and a sporty stance, the Fabia RS 132TSI stands out as the high performer in the Fabia range. This model encompasses all that the Fabia stands for, but with more power and the looks to match. Externally, the RS is distinguished by a rear spoiler, front spoiler with integrated LED daytime running lights, 17” alloys and trademark RS red brake callipers. Twin exhausts and tinted windows further enhance the sporty feel, while the availability of a contrasting roof colour (white or black) along with white, silver, dark chrome and black alloy wheel finishes, allow customers to personalise the look of their car like never before.

Inside, the Fabia RS features height-adjustable sports seats along with a three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel. The latter is fitted with paddles for manual control of the seven-speed DSG gearbox. At the heart of the Fabia RS is a remarkable 1.4-litre TSI 132 kW twincharged engine and is by far the most powerful engine ever offered in a production Fabia. Maximum torque of 175 Nm is delivered between 1,550 and 4,100 rpm and the Fabia RS sprints from 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds.

The Fabia RS 132TSI will be launched in combination with other Fabia models in 2012, when further details and pricing will be published by Next Car.
