Forester and Impreza Diesels for Europe

11th September, 2008

Subaru will reveal the next stage in its diesel boxer engine programme when Forester and Impreza variants are unveiled at the Paris Motor Show next month.

Following the launch of the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive Legacy and Outback 2.0D in Europe earlier this year, the latest variants will go on sale in Europe in coming months.

The boxer diesel in Forester and Impreza features a closed-type diesel particulate filter (DPF) and is matched with a newly developed six-speed manual transmission.

Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), the maker of Subaru vehicles, claims the Forester 2.0D model boasts the lowest CO2 emission levels (167 grammes/kilometre) in the compact SUV category.

The boxer diesel is characterised by compact size and light weight, thanks to the high rigidity of the horizontally opposed design and use of an aluminium cylinder block.

The engine delivers excellent acceleration, enabling sporty driving while offering outstanding fuel consumption with low emissions.

Subaru Australia expects to launch the Outback 2.0D in the last quarter of next year.

Subaru boxer diesel specifications:

Engine type  Horizontally opposed four-cylinder DOHC 16-valve turbo diesel

Maximum torque  350 Nm/1800~2,400 rpm
CO2 emissions  167 g/km (Forester 2.0D); 152 g/km (Impreza 2.0D)
