Celebrations for Toyota's 50th anniversary in Australia include a new special edition of the top-selling Camry.

The new Camry "Touring" Special Edition has over $1,500 worth of extra value*, with a range of added exterior and interior features over the Camry Altise on which it is based.

Toyota has built more than 1.44 million Camrys in Australia since local Camry production began in 1987.

Camry represents 55 per cent of all the vehicles Toyota has built in Australia since the first cars were produced in 1963.

Last year, Toyota's Altona plant built a record 114,714 Camrys - of which more than 80 per cent were exported.

The Camry Touring Special Edition has 14 separate features over and above Camry Altise. Added exterior features include 17-inch alloy wheels (including alloy spare wheel), front fog lamps, sports headlamps, and a Camry Sportivo radiator grille. The new special edition also has a rear-lip spoiler, chrome exhaust diffuser, "50th Anniversary" decals and "Touring" badge. The Toyota Camry Touring interior package includes dual-zone air conditioning, multi-information display and a 6-disc CD changer. The new audio system includes two additional speakers, making six in total. In addition, the Camry Touring Special Edition has a three-spoke leather-bound steering wheel, leather-bound parking brake lever and leather-bound gear-shift knob.

All Australian-produced Camry models have a fuel-efficient 117 kW 2.4-litre engine with variable valve timing technology.

Camry has fuel consumption of 8.9 litres/100 km on the ADR 81/02 combined cycle with manual transmission, and 9.9 litres/100 km with automatic transmission**.

* Added value amount is based on the recommended retail price of Camry Altise fitted with the additional features listed for the Camry Touring Special Edition including fitment.

** Fuel consumption will vary depending on driving conditions/style, vehicle conditions and options/accessories. Source of fuel consumption data: ADR81/02 combined cycle.
