The "baby" of Toyota's SUV range - RAV4 - is marking the 15th year of the nameplate in Australia with a special-edition model that adds value to the model.

For a limited time, the four-cylinder Toyota RAV4 Edge gains more than $2,000 of added features compared with the RAV4 CV on which it is based.

Consumers will pay just $750 extra for the added features that include 17-inch alloy wheels (including the spare wheel), reverse-parking sonar sensors, roof rails and privacy glass for the rear, rear-quarter and rear-door windows.

Inside, the Toyota RAV4 Edge gains a six-stack sound system with LCD display, Bluetooth™* telephone and audio streaming capability, USB audio input, premium steering wheel and gearshift knob, front and rear carpet mats and an "Edge" badge on the rear door.

Prices start at $34,240** for the five-speed manual transmission model.

Since its 1994 arrival, RAV4 has been instrumental in establishing and growing the SUV market in Australia.

Annual RAV4 sales have exceeded 10,000 for each of the past eight years.

In recent times, RAV4 has been a consistent leader of the compact SUV segment, including three of the past five years.

Australians last year bought more than 50,000 Toyota SUVs for the first time - including 14,122 RAV4.

Total RAV4 sales in Australia are expected to pass 150,000 in the second half of 2009, including V6 versions introduced from late 2007.

The special-edition Toyota RAV4 Edge is equipped with a 2.4-litre petrol engine with variable-valve timing and the choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions.

The Edge special-edition package adds to the already standard specifications of the RAV4 CV model - including vehicle stability control (VSC), traction control, anti-skid brakes and hill-start assist control. The automatic version is also equipped with downhill assist control.

Safety features include twin front airbags and active front-seat head restraints, designed to reduce the chance of whiplash injury in a rear-end collision.

In addition, RAV4 Edge has air-conditioning, cruise control, power-operated windows and mirrors, tilt and telescopic steering adjustment, electric power steering and a rear spoiler.

Six colours are offered: Graphite, Silver Pearl, Ebony, Wildfire, Liquid Bronze, and Blue Storm.

RAV4 Edge models are covered by Toyota Service Advantage - low, capped-price servicing of just $170 for each of the first six standard scheduled services over three years or 60,000km (whichever comes first)***.
