This Japanese branded car is designed in Europe and manufactured in England. It's a hatchback that is elevated like an SUV and, in fact, even imitates the look of an SUV to a degree. Yet on the road it is a comfortable car offering surprisingly good ride qualities.

The car is a Nissan Dualis. Whilst this model has been around for a few years now, a series two edition was released last year. Additionally, the Dualis range has expanded to include an all-wheel drive version and a there is a model with an enlongated body known as Dualis+2.

The manufacturer's list price, which excludes the on-road costs such as dealer delivery fees and the state/territory statutory charges, begin at a very reasonable $24,990 for the base model which is known as "ST". Our drive car was the upmarket "Ti" version fitted with a CVT auto transmission. The manufacturer's list price of the Dualis Ti 2-wheel drive automatic is $32,190.

Power for each of the Dualis variants is by a two-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which provides quite reasonable performance and a decent fuel consumption rating of 8.2 litres per 100 kilometres on the often quoted combined cycle. The good-sized fuel tank takes 65 litres which equates to a good cruising range for those who pack-up their Dualis and hit the road for an extended trip.

This five-seater has cloth trim in the ST model, whilst the Ti features leather trim.

The tallish design of the Dualis lends itself to a roomy interior. We found the Ti interior very nicely presented with contrasting stitching on the seats which provided an upmarket appearance. The front seats are supportive, adding to the level of comfort provided by this small to mid-sized vehicle, which is under 4.4 metres in length.

The warranty and roadside assistance package is for three years or 100,000 kilometres, whichever comes first.

The Nissan Dualis is an impressive vehicle as it is comfortable with a very pleasant ride, as we discovered during our 228 kilometres around suburban Melbourne.
