Exhilarating performance

The 'heartbeat' of any performance vehicle is its engine, and the 2015 Chrysler 300 SRT’s beats to the tune of a 6.4-litre HEMI V8 producing 350kW and 637Nm.

The engine’s high torque output allows for blistering standing starts and straight-line power, while performance-tuned motor mounts improve idle stability and ride control at any speed. An active intake manifold and high-lift camshaft with cam phasing provides maximum low-end torque while optimising high-end power.

Proving performance doesn’t have to be costly, the 300 SRT includes an active valve exhaust system that allows for standard Fuel Saver Technology (four-cylinder mode) to engage over a wider rpm range.

New to the 2015 Chrysler 300 SRT is its TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, providing shift quality, refinement and fuel efficiency. The design of the transmission further contributes to efficiency. Furthermore, the transmission features particularly close fifth through eighth-speed gear ratios for smoother shifting, along with a lower cruising rpm in top gear for added refinement.

The addition of the TorqueFlite gearbox has also allowed for the enhancement of an advanced launch control system that allows the driver to personalise performance options including the desired launch rpm, as well as track-ready timing functions including a 400-metre sprint log that allows drivers to save their best times.

For spirited road driving, engaging Sport mode instantly transforms the sedan’s performance and personality by activating sport-tuned steering calibration and paddle-shift mode, in addition to sport engine and transmission calibration, and increased responsiveness of the accelerator pedal calibration. Engaging Sport – by switching the rotary shifter to ‘S’ – provides lightning-quick gear changes, reducing shift times by 37 per cent (250 milliseconds versus 400 milliseconds) and can hold the desired gear without unexpected shifts, including at the redline.

Completing the 300 SRT’s impressive performance credentials are the Brembo Performance four-piston brakes with slotted rotors for exceptional stopping performance, mechanical limited slip rear differential and four-wheel independent sport performance suspension with performance-tuned steering.

Road- and-track-focused ride and handling

The adaptive damping suspension (ADS) system (standard on SRT) is linked to the vehicle’s drive modes and offers three fully customisable settings – Default, Sport and Track. Switching modes allows the 300 SRT to offer a compliant and comfortable ride on the street, yet can easily be switched to handle on-track conditions. The 300 SRT Core also features three drive modes, which adjust steering, traction control and gear changes.

In “Default” mode, a wide range of on-road and driver inputs – such as vehicle speed, steering angle, steering speed, brake torque, throttle position and longitudinal/lateral/vertical accelerations – automatically tune the suspension for specific conditions.

In “Sport” mode, the damping system rebound is locked to a higher damping rate. Drivers can easily choose between settings to quickly change the shock damping characteristics from default, for everyday commuting, to “Sport,” for more spirited driving situations.

In “Track” mode, the higher damping rates from the Sport mode combine with a performance shifting and gear holding feature that allows the driver full shift control when using the steering wheel mounted paddle controls.

Enthusiast-inspired rear-wheel-drive architecture for pure performance

The chassis of the new 2015 Chrysler 300 SRT is designed, engineered and fine-tuned to deliver performance and efficiencies, thanks to its advanced technological solutions, which include:

All-new advanced electric power steering system

Transmitting the 2015 Chrysler 300 SRT’s road-holding abilities to the driver is the all-new EPS system, which transmits precise road feel and improves on-centre tracking, steering noise and fuel consumption.

Depending on the control mode, the EPS system applies variable steering effort to different driving conditions. EPS analyses steering angle, vehicle speed, engine rpm and chassis control systems 13 times per second for a precise performance-handling feel.

For track or performance driving, the EPS changes when Sport or Track mode is activated to give the steering character greater feel and feedback.

All-new, lighter-weight axles

Replacing the previous steel structure, the new aluminium axles and housing help to reduce weight. The new driveline is also designed to reduce parasitic friction and increase durability with a new four-bolt design (previously a three-bolt design).

Lightweight front suspension cradle

At the heart of the Chrysler 300 SRT’s front suspension is a rigid and lightweight suspension cradle made from tubular steel, which features hydro-engine mounts to make the interior cabin smooth, comfortable and quiet. Premium hydro-bushings, monotube shock absorbers and a lower-front-shock-to-suspension-link bushing provide control, ride and comfort.

Aggressive front- and rear-camber geometry

Performance handling requires maximum road-holding grip, and the 300 SRT delivers with aggressive front- and rear-camber geometry. The 300 SRT is set up for high-speed cornering with its tyres leaning inboard at the top relative to the body.

Use of advanced materials and techniques

The Chrysler 300 SRT utilises an array of high-strength materials and advanced manufacturing techniques to deliver the strength, rigidity and protection expected in a world-class sedan.

• Hot-stamped ultra-high-strength steel can be found in the A-pillars, body side doors, upper front-rail section and windshield header
• Thin, lightweight dual-phased steel is twice the strength of high-strength steel with maximum energy absorption and is strategically engineered into the sedan’s inner-front rails and engine box area for occupant protection
• Transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) enables the B-pillar, lower header and rocker areas to use thinner, lightweight steel. In addition, nylon-composite reinforcements in the sedan’s upper header cavities and A and B-pillars, enhance crash protection
• Laser brazing creates an uninterrupted unibody with smooth roof panel and rail sections for a precision-appearance and improved aerodynamics

Technology

The Chrysler 300 offers two audio systems designed to immerse passengers in the ultimate audio experience, including a premium six-speaker stereo (standard on SRT Core), or Harman Kardon premium audio system with 18-speakers, 8-inch subwoofer and 900-watt amplifier (standard on SRT).

Safety

The 300 SRT offers more than 80 available safety and security features, including many that are new for 2015, including:

· Adaptive Cruise Control Plus with Full Stop: Helps maintain distance from vehicle ahead; Chrysler’s adaptive cruise control has been upgraded with the ability to perform a full stop without driver intervention whilst the vehicle is in motion, hold for two seconds and resume with traffic
· Adaptive forward lighting (AFL): The system adjusts headlight beams up to
· 15 degrees outboard right or left depending on the turning direction of the vehicle
· Advance Brake Assist: If inadequate force is applied to brakes in response to signal from Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus, Advance Brake Assist increases brake force automatically
· Automatic high-beam headlamps: Headlamp system adjusts to ambient light and oncoming traffic to deliver maximum lighting
· Blind-spot Monitoring (BSM): Uses dual ultra-wideband radar sensors to aid driver when changing lanes, passing or being passed; blind-spot vehicle presence noted via illuminated icons in side-view mirrors and driver-selectable audible chime
· Full-speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus: Radar and camera technology combine to determine if frontal impact appears imminent; if so, system pre-fills brakes, then transmits audible and visual warnings for driver to intervene. A lack of driver response triggers brief brake application as a tactile alert. If the driver remains unresponsive and frontal collision risk remains, brakes are applied to slow vehicle before impact. The system can bring vehicle to full stop if speed is below 32km/h
· Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist: Alerts and assists driver; leverages electric power steering (EPS) to deliver subtle steering-wheel input when system detects need for course correction

Benchmark stopping power

The Chrysler 300 SRT offers stopping power courtesy of its 14.2 inch (front) and 13.8 inch (rear) slotted rotors with four-piston Brembo Performance brakes. The Ready Alert Braking system anticipates when the driver quickly releases the accelerator pedal and may initiate an emergency brake stop, after which the electronic stability control pump engages to set brake pads against rotors in order to decrease the time required for full brake application.

Improved brake cooling and fade performance comes courtesy of wind tunnel designed brake cooling ducts that direct airflow to the slotted brake rotors for consistent stopping power.

Aggressive exterior

The new Chrysler 300 SRT has a bold, confident design.

Adopting the key design changes of the 2015 Chrysler 300, the new 300 SRT now offers a redesigned fascia featuring a more sculptured surface, taller more prominent grille with a unique dimensional texture.

Bi-Xenon headlights with adaptive forward lighting (AFL) capture the road ahead, while integrated Chrysler C shaped LED daytime running lamps (DRL) highlight the 300 SRT’s unmistakable brand identity.

The 2015 300 SRT sits lower than non-SRT models and features SRT-exclusive side sill cladding painted in matching body colour for the “planted” look of a true sports sedan. Standard wheels are 20 x 9-inch.

Race-inspired and high-performance interior

The Chrysler 300 SRT interior combines luxury accommodation with performance-oriented technology and appointments.

An SRT-exclusive leather-wrapped, flat-bottomed steering wheel features the SRT logo and is flanked by diecast paddle shifters. Taking the place of a traditional instrument cluster is the 300 SRT’s fully customisable seven-inch instrument cluster display, offering performance readouts as well as speed, fuel economy and navigation information.

SRT models include real carbon fibre interior trim pieces integrated into the instrument panel, door spears and shifter bezel and racing style brake and accelerator pedals.

The UConnect 8.4-inch colour touchscreen display with navigation (navigation optional on Core) offers SRT Performance pages that delivers performance data such as steering angle, power and torque outputs along with engine gauges.

Chrysler 300 SRT models offer standard heated and ventilated front seats with active headrests and the SRT logo embroidered in the seat backs. Rear seats also are heated for passenger comfort. Modified door trim panels feature unique bolster material and accent stitching on armrests to match the seats. While 300 SRT Core model’s interior includes cloth seats - also embroidered with the SRT logo.
