Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX owners who have a hankering for extra performance may find the answer at MRT Performance.

Well known for putting more sizzle into Subarus, MRT is now responding to the enquiries of EVO IX owners, with two new packages which will add extra grunt to the showroom models.

As with all prior kits MRT has developed, the primary aim behind the XA and XB Kits for the EVO IX is maximum improvement in performance, responsiveness and driveability without any effect on reliability.

The XA Kit was designed as an entry-level starting point for owners who want a boost in performance over the factory standard but are on a limited budget. For $1,590 (including GST and fully fitted), the end result is more than 20 kW of peak power and up to 20 per cent more torque.

The XB Kit ($3,990) delivers even more: more than 40 kW of extra power and around 35 per cent more torque - think of the 0-100 km/h sprint as a flat five second experience. Either kit can be fitted in a day.

"I have not stopped smiling since I picked up my upgraded EVO," says Tony Royes of Collaroy.

"The extra power and torque has dramatically improved its driveability."

Development is almost complete on a third power-up package - the XC kit. A similar kit to one MRT currently has available for the Subaru WRX, it delivers 55 kW additional peak power. The EVO XC Kit is expected to be on sale shortly.

As a direct result from the research and development that went into the EVO IX packages, MRT Performance can also provide similar upgrades for earlier model Lancer Evolutions (EVO 5-8), including the popular EVO 6.5 Tommi Makinen edition.

The benefit of choosing any MRT Power Kit is that it is a complete package - all the components are designed to work together and it's simple to step up to a higher-spec kit when the owner is comfortable with the concept.

The XA kit gives the same level of performance as the (100 ron tuned) Japanese- spec cars but on 98 octane fuel - and all upgrades come with an MRT factory warranty guarantee.

"We have designed our MRT Power Kits to provide the ultimate performance upgrade at great price points without sacrificing reliability," says MRT's director, Brett Middleton.

"We want our clients to have peace of mind, with comfort in knowing their factory warranty is safe."

MRT Power kits are available from the company's head office in Sydney (1 Averill Street, Rhodes; tel: (02) 9767 4545) and from authorised stockists in every capital city.

MRT Performance has been in business for 15 years, with a strong pedigree in tarmac and gravel rallying, circuit racing and general automotive excellence.

Company owner Brett Middleton was a regular competitor in the Australian Rally Championship with factory support from Daihatsu and Honda. After winning three F2 titles, the team purchased a factory prepared Subaru Impreza WRX in 2001 which Middleton uses for tarmac competition - when business permits.
