Peugeot 407 SV HDi
The new 407 SV HDi

18th July, 2006

Peugeot has introduced a distinctive range topping model to its 407 line-up. Called the 407 SV HDi, this new model is available as a sedan or ‘Touring’, and features the ground breaking 2.7 litre twin-turbo V6 diesel that recently debuted in the stunning 407 Coupe.

The 407 SV HDi model is equipped with a 6-speed automatic gearbox as standard, and develops 150 kW with a staggering 440 Nm of torque from a low 1,900 rpm. The twin-turbo charged HDi engine represents ‘state of the art’ diesel engine technology, and is priced at a remarkable $61,990 (RRP) for the sedan, and $64,990 (RRP) for the Touring.

Offering the performance and exhilaration usually reserved for luxury cars costing over $100,000, the 407 SV HDi sets the new value for money standard in luxury diesel motoring. In conjunction with the V6 HDi engine and a long list of standard equipment, those looking to access the latest in diesel technology wrapped up in a stylish and comfortable sedan or wagon, need look no further, or pay more for the privilege for that matter.

The V6 diesel engine offers the highest specification in terms of performance, economy, environmental protection and drivability thanks to the refinement of its operation. Fitted with a particulate filter (standard on all Peugeot diesel engines) the SV HDi’s emission levels are outstandingly low, meeting with Euro 4 requirements. And reaching 100 kms per hour in only 8.5 seconds, the diesel powered automatic will certainly dispel any misconceptions that still exist with regards to diesels being slow.

Importantly for motorists who enjoy driving their cars in these times of high fuel prices, the performance of the SV HDi doesn’t come with the usual drawback of poor fuel economy. With a city cycle of 11.7 litres/100km and a highway cycle of 6.5 litres/100km, the combined cycle of only 8.4 litres/100km will give you a range of some 800 kms per tank.

Both sedan and Touring versions of the 407 SV HDi are generously equipped, and buyers will be pleased to learn that the car’s long list of standard features rival those of far more expensive cars. A small taste; Xenon headlights, Cruise control with speed limiter, Rear parking sensors, 18” Alloy wheels (plus full size spare) with tyre pressure sensors, Dual zone digital air conditioning with climate control, Leather upholstery, JBL hi-fi with 6 disc CD auto-changer, Auto headlights and windscreen wipers, Electric heated front seats with memory, Laminated side glass and Trip computer with a colour illuminated display screen.

The SV HDi can be differentiated from the petrol SV by its 18 inch rims, as well as body colour front rear and side rub strips that feature chrome inserts, as well as chrome cross bars in the front grill section. It also features a Coupe style sports leather steering wheel and a new look alloy finished front centre console, door trims and air vents.

The 407 is also a very safe car, scoring a maximum 5-star result in ENCAP testing. This exemplary performance results especially from the excellent behaviour of the 407 structure, with dual track absorption of forces. This assembly is perfectly assisted by the active and passive safety features that abound in the 407 SV HDi such as; The latest generation Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) including ABS, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Emergency Brake Assist and Dynamic Stability Control, Six Airbags (Driver and passenger SMART airbags, front side airbags, full length curtain airbags), retractable steering column in the event of an accident, active front seat headrestraints, pre-tensioning and force limiting front seatbelts, automatic door unlocking in the event of an accident and the automatic activation of hazard lights under emergency braking.

The 407 SV HDi is now on sale at authorised Peugeot Dealers across the country.
