Porsche AG has sold more than 3,000 vehicles in Japan for the first time.

Porsche announced at the Tokyo Motor Show, that customer deliveries in fiscal year 2004/05 (to 31st July) increased by 16 percent in total to 3,045 units. The strongest demand was for the 911 with 1,235 delivered vehicles, followed by the Cayenne with sales of 1,090 units, which were slightly up on the previous year's level of 1,072 units. Deliveries of the Boxster rose by six percent to 714 units and six of the high-performance sport car – the Carrera GT – were sold.

"Porsche's excellent track record in Japan is all the more striking given that the economic environment here was extremely strained. The fact that we have been able to survive successfully is mainly due to the appeal of our current model range with which we win people over, even in economically difficult times. In light of this, we expect further sales growth again on the Japanese market for the current fiscal year" explained Hans Riedel, the Board member responsible for Sales and Marketing, at a press conference in Tokyo.

Porsche is convinced that the Cayman S will also gather a large following quickly in Japan. The mid-range coupe is celebrating its Japanese debut at the Motor Show in Tokyo and will be launched there in December 2005. The new model, which closes the gap between the 911 and the Boxster in Porsche's range, met with an overwhelmingly positive response at its world premiere at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA).
